Wallingford Taijiquan & Qigong
Following the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taijiquan (tai chi chuan) and Qigong seek to restore and regulate the flow of ones Qi (Vital energy) and blood. This is achieved through a combination of mindfulness, correct postural alignment, relaxation and deep abdominal breathing. A specialised form of effortless movement, known as Silk- Reeling, is learnt which unifies and integrates the entire body-mind. The primary aim is to develop ones ‘Internal Strength’ in order to enjoy an enduring and healthy life. Taiji is a profound training which has martial, medicinal and meditative elements. The consequence of practice is a gradually more developed state of awareness, and the ability to be more attentive to both our internal and external reality.
There is a Monday evening class which covers Qigong and Taiji principles followed by Chen Style Taijiquan form instruction. It is possible just to come for first hour only if more interested in Qigong.
There is also a Tuesday afternoon class specifically for the over 50s. Both classes are suitable for beginners.
1. Chen Style Taijiquan and Qigong.
Chen Style is the original style of Taiji (Tai Chi) on which all other styles are based.
These classes cover a comprehensive range of exercises and activities to cultivate good health and, if desired, martial ability, including:
Qigong (Chi Kung)
Zhan Zhuang (Standing Meditation)
Fang Song Gong (Releasing looseness/Deep relaxation)
Chansigong (Silk Reeling drills)
Tui Shou (Partner work)
Taijiquan (T’ai Chi Ch’uan) Chen stlyle hand forms

2. Taijiqigong for the Over 50s
A gentler class that focuses on maintaining and enhancing mobility, balance, good posture and general health as we age. This class is also promoted by AgeUK.
These classes cover a comprehensive range of exercises and activities to cultivate good health, including:

Zhan Zhuang (Postural alignment exercises)
Fang Song Gong (Releasing looseness/Deep relaxation)
Qigong Routines (Eight Pieces of Brocade, Eight Animal Frolics and The Five Elements Qigong)

Chansigong (Silk Reeling drills)
Taijiquan (T’ai Chi Ch’uan) Chen Style 13 Harmony form.
